1.To let up:
Means: to slacken- lessen in intensity = شل کردن، شدت رو کم کردن
if the rain lets up a little, they may begin the parade.
It has rained for three days, without letting up.

2.To lay off:
Means: to dismiss temporarily, generally because of lack of work = مرخصی، بیکاری موقتی عموما به دلیل نبود کار
During this season of the year, they often lay off many workers at that plant.
If business continues to be slow, we may have to lay off one or two people.

3.To blow out:
Means: to explode- go flat, said generally of tiers = منفجر شدن، بیشتر در مورد تایر ماشین بکار میرود
On our trip to Florida, one of our tires blew out.
If a tire blows out while one is driving at high speed, it can be very dangerous.

4.To get on:
Means: to enter- board = وارد شدن، سوار شدن
I always get on the bus at the 2nd station.
William gets on the subway at the same station every morning.

5.To get off:
Means: to leave- descent from = ترک کردن، پیاده شدن از
Helen got off the bus at 43rd street.
At what station do you usually get off the subway?

6.To put on:
Means: to place of oneself, said particularly of clothes = پوشیدن لباس
Mary put on the scarf and left the room.
Why is John putting on his hat and coat?
Put your hat on, before you leave the house.

7.To take off:
Means: to remove, said also of clothes = برداشتن، بیشتر درمورد لباس بکار میرود، از تن در آوردن
Take your sweater off in this warm room.
John took off his hat, and entered the room.

8.Tired out:
Means: extremely tired = بسیار خسته
I have worked very hard today and I am tired out.
A long walk tired her out.

9.To call on:
Means: to visit = ملاقات کردن، دیدن
Last night several friends called on us.
How many salesmen call on you every day?

10.To call up:
Means: to telephone = زنگ زدن، تماس گرفتن
Oh! I forgot to call up yesterday, although I had promised to call you up exactly at 3:00.
Did anyone call me up while I was out?
